A man who was riding his bike along a cycle path and fell off because of a dangerous drain is to be paid compensation for the injuries he sustained.
Iain Anderson, 42, was cycling through Holyrood Park in August 2005 when his bike hit a sunken drain at the end of a gully.
He was thrown off the bike and smashed his cheekbone, sprained his wrists and suffered cuts and bruises.
Witnesses attested that Mr Anderson had not been riding erratically and that the accident was due to the uneven cycle path.
He took legal action against Scottish ministers – because the path is owned by Historic Scotland – and has now been awarded £5,750.
A spokesperson for Historic Scotland said: "This was an unfortunate incident and we hope Mr Anderson is recovering well."
In April, it was reported that cyclist Ian Davis was to receive £7,600 in compensation after breaking his ribs and dislocating his shoulder when he was thrown over his handlebars because of a pothole in West Berkshire.

An autistic child who alleges that he was locked in a toilet by his carer has secured compensation.
Alex Berry, now 15, was left in the care of Siobhan Quinn in May 2005 as usual. She looked after the youngster in her own home in Dublin.
However, it is claimed that on this occasion, she left the house and secured 11-year-old Alex in a downstairs toilet while she was away.
Alex suffers from severe autism and cannot be left alone. His father Peter alleges that he arrived at Ms Quinn’s house to find her unlocking the toilet and letting Alex – who was in a distressed state – out.
With the assistance of his family, Alex took legal action against Ms Quinn, as well as Northside Home Care Services (her employer) and the Health Service Executive.
Mr Justice John Quirke ruled Ms Quinn’s behaviour to be "scandalous" and "dreadful".
Although the parties being sued did not admit liability for their negligence, it was agreed that Alex should receive a payout of £42,300 to cover the pain and suffering he was caused.
According to the National Autistic Society, over half a million people in the UK have autism, a figure which equates to around one in 100 people.

A man who was in prison for 15 years for a crime he did not commit is claiming £1 million in compensation for the injustice.
Andrew Adams, 39, was jailed in 1993 for the murder of Alfred Royal in Newcastle, but his conviction was overturned in January 2007.
He thought he would be paid compensation for the miscarriage of justice, but was told he would receive nothing because he could not show that the conviction came as a result of new evidence.
Now, Mr Adams is taking the case to the court of appeal in a bid to get a payout for the 15 years he spent behind bars.
"All I’m asking for is to get back what was taken away from me when I was put in prison," he told the Chronicle Live.
The victim claims that he did not receive appropriate representation at his trial and that his lawyers had not used a number of facts that could have led to his acquittal.
Anyone who is the victim of a miscarriage of justice is eligible for compensation if new evidence comes to light that proves they were not responsible for the original crime.

A man who was badly hurt in a car crash is seeking £300,000 in compensation from the driver he holds responsible.
David Frost was driving in West Sussex in 2006 when he was hit head-on by Scott Warren’s VW Caddy, Get Surrey reports.
Mr Frost had to undergo ten operations for injuries including fractured vertebrae, fractured thighs and damage to his hands.
He has now launched legal action against Mr Warren, claiming that he had been driving too fast, was over the drink drive limit and had been on the wrong side of the road at the time of the collision.
The victim is hoping to claim compensation because he faces more medical treatment in the future and is still unfit to work even three years later.
Anyone injured in a car accident should seek the advice of a solicitor if the accident was not their fault, as they may be able to claim compensation from the responsible party’s insurance.
