Another successful clinical negligence claim was settled recently by Pryers solicitors in York for £10,000. A lady was awarded this amount of money to compensate her for the Defendant hospital’s failure to carry out a mammogram and further scans. This led to a delay in diagnosing a breast tumour, though did not have a significant effect on her prognosis. The damages represented the unnecessary pain and suffering caused by the delay in treatment.

Successful injury claim after industrial machinery fault
March 16th, 2010
Pryers, the injury claim solicitors based in York, recently represented a claimant who suffered an accident during the course of his employment. Whilst working with industrial machinery, a fault developed and whilst investigating the cause, a hydraulic pipe joint failed and a jet of hydraulic fluid entered the claimant’s dominant thumb, causing a significant injury and infection.
After a lengthy period of treatment the claimant was required to have the tip of the thumb amputated.
Liability for the accident was conceded by the insurers because of the faulty work equipment and the claimant received in excess of £19,000 in damages.

Personal trainer ’seeks £300,000 in damages’
November 3rd, 2009
A personal trainer who was left paralysed by a snowmobile accident is seeking £300,000 in damages.
Mother-of-two Emma Moore is bringing a claim against Hotelplan, which trades as Inghams Travel, over the incident which occurred at the Paradiso Passo Tonale resort in Italy in January 2007.
Mrs Moore, from Denton, Northamptonshire, was paralysed from the chest down after the brakes failed to work on her snowmobile and it careered off the slopes into a car park where it collided with the vehicles parked there, reports the Daily Telegraph.
She is seeking damages over her claims that she was given inadequate and brief training on how to operate the machine and was not shown how to operate the emergency stop button.
The holiday company has denied liability for the incident and said that any blame lies with Adriano Trantera, the snowmobile garage owner who gave her the training.
Last month, a 19-year-old extreme snowmobile rider, Darryl Tait, was left paralysed when he was hit in the back by his machine while attempting a stunt.

Pensioner awarded £17k after hotel fall
October 28th, 2009
A woman who was injured after being knocked over by a dog in a hotel car park has been awarded damages of £17,000.
Violet Mullock, 69, had been waiting for a lift home after attending a function at the Elms Hotel and restaurant near Chester in 2003.
However, as she stood in the dark, the barman’s dog ran towards her and knocked her off her feet.
Ms Mullock had to have surgery on her knee and also badly hurt her elbow. She took legal action against the hotel’s owner Thomas Price and has been awarded compensation of £17,500 following a recent hearing.
Mr Price has now applied to the Financial Services Authority in order to cover the payout after being let down by his insurance company.
Anyone who is injured after a fall in a public place may be eligible for compensation and should seek the advice of a solicitor specialising in personal injury claims.
