Mum considers compensation claim after boys fall

A woman is considering launching a compensation claim against her local council after her ten-year-old child fell off his bike and badly hurt his face.

Joe Baxter was cycling along a piece of grass near his home when it suddenly finished and changed into a three foot drop, the Lynn News attests.

The child fell onto his face and was badly cut. He had to take two days off school and needed hospital treatment for his injuries.

His mother Sue said: "The blood was gushing out of his nose. He was lucky he did not fracture his skull."

She is now looking into a possible compensation claim against West Norfolk Council for its failure to erect a fence or a sign to warn people about the dangerous drop.

Councils and highways agencies are responsible for maintaining footpaths and roads. If an accident occurs on a defective area and it can be proven that the council had not recently carried out checks on it, compensation may be payable to the victim.

Girl launches £300k compensation claim

Girl launches 𧷤k compensation claim

A girl has launched a claim for compensation after an infection caught at birth caused her ongoing health problems.

Clarice Wright, now 11, caught chickenpox at 11 months old, the Gazette Live reports.

However, after she was discharged by the doctors, her condition worsened and she began feeling drowsy and vomiting.

Her mother Demelza contacted medics at Cambridge Medical Group, Linthorpe, but she claims they refused to do a home visit.

An infection set in and got into Clarice’s hip, causing it to fracture.

As a result, she now has one leg longer than the other and is unable to walk long distances.

She also faces future surgery on her legs and hips.

Through her mother, she has now launched a legal bid to claim for compensation of around £300,000.

Cambridge Medical Group declined to comment on the case.

According to NCT, when babies are exposed to chickenpox after they are born they may be slightly more at risk than older children. In such cases the disease would begin between seven and 28 days after birth.

Portworker wins payout after 9 years

July 22nd, 2008

A portworker from Felixstowe has won a nine-year legal battle for compensation following an accident at a container terminal.

Alan Thorne, 49, suffered an excruciating painful accident in 1999 while working as a terminal operator for Hutchinson Ports (UK).

Doctors said Mr Thorne would never be able to work again as a result of the accident, reports the Ipswich Evening Star. While diagnosis of his back problems was problematic at first, Mr Thorne was later found to have suffered a wedger fracture and regional pain syndrome.

The legal team acting for Mr Thorne claim he was subjected to more than 100 hours of surveillance by his employers who were attempting to discredit his condition.

Mr Thorne commented: "I am just relieved that a settlement has now been offered and I can put the accident behind me and move on."

Last year, two men were taken to hospital after a number of safety boats was hit by a tug at a Pembrokeshire port, according to the BBC.
