A woman who was injured after being knocked over by a dog in a hotel car park has been awarded damages of £17,000.
Violet Mullock, 69, had been waiting for a lift home after attending a function at the Elms Hotel and restaurant near Chester in 2003.
However, as she stood in the dark, the barman’s dog ran towards her and knocked her off her feet.
Ms Mullock had to have surgery on her knee and also badly hurt her elbow. She took legal action against the hotel’s owner Thomas Price and has been awarded compensation of £17,500 following a recent hearing.
Mr Price has now applied to the Financial Services Authority in order to cover the payout after being let down by his insurance company.
Anyone who is injured after a fall in a public place may be eligible for compensation and should seek the advice of a solicitor specialising in personal injury claims.

British people who are involved in car accidents should seek legal advice after a car accident, the Law Society has advised.
Its comments come after it emerged that some insurance firms in Northern Ireland are contacting the innocent parties directly after crashes and offering to resolve the case without getting solicitors involved, BBC News reports.
Alison Donnelly, spokesperson for the Consumer Council, warned this could mean that people involved in accidents are not getting the compensation they deserve.
"Any insurance company that actively discourages consumers from getting this advice is behaving unfairly and should be stopped," she added, pointing out that those involved in crashes are likely to still feel shaken and vulnerable, plus they may not be confident enough to insist on their rights.
Figures from the Department for Transport show that 26,034 people were seriously injured on Britain’s roads last year, while there were also 202,333 minor injuries.
Anyone hurt in a road accident that was not their fault should seek the advice of a solicitor within three years of the accident in order to see if they are eligible to make a compensation claim.

A law expert has warned people in the UK that they may not get the compensation they deserve after a road accident if they simply pursue their claim through an insurance company instead of seeking legal advice.
At a recent event hosted by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, the organisation’s president Amanda Stevens said that while a solicitor will work with the victim to make sure a fair outcome is reached, insurance companies will mostly want to get the claim processed quickly, the Liverpool Post reports.
She brought up the example of a woman who was offered £1,000 by her insurance company after a car crash, but realised after consulting her solicitor that she could receive a sum 1,000 per cent higher than this.
Simon Shaw, a solicitor in Liverpool, added: "The only way to ensure you will achieve full recognition and just compensation for the injuries you have sustained is to take independent legal advice from a recognised solicitor."
All personal injury claims must be lodged within three years of an accident or the victim will lose their right to bring about a claim.

A man has taken his ex-girlfriend to the high court in a bid to claim compensation from her.
Luke Jones, now 25, was travelling in a golf buggy being driven by Amber Mounty while on holiday in 2006, the South Wales Argus reports.
However, she lost control and Mr Jones’ leg was crushed under the vehicle.
He had to have his leg amputated and also suffered problems with his liver and an MRSA infection while at hospital.
Mr Jones has now taken the case further as, although Ms Mounty’s insurance company has admitted liability, the two sides are unable to agree upon the amount of compensation that should be paid.
He claims he will be unable to get an equivalent job to that he had before the accident and that he still suffers psychological problems.
Anyone injured in such an accident should seek legal advice as they could be eligible for compensation if it can be proved that another party was responsible for the incident.
