A man who had to have his leg amputated after he was hit by a motorist is seeking compensation of up to £300,000.
Alpesh Ramji, a former cobbler, was outside his shop in Harrow when a Volkswagen driven by David Pelton mounted the kerb and ploughed into him, the Harrow Observer reports.
The car crushed him against the building and Mr Ramji had to have his leg amputated below the knee.
He claims that he has still not come to terms with his injuries and that he has trouble with his prosthetic limb due to the tissue damage he sustained.
Mr Ramji is seeking damages of £300,000 in order to cover his lost earnings, his health care and the modifications to his car and his home.
Any pedestrian who is injured in an accident that was the fault of a car, bus, lorry or other vehicle may be eligible to claim compensation against the driver’s insurers.
Their case could be particularly strong if they were hit on the pavement or on a crossing, as Mr Ramji was.

A man who suffered a serious injury to his foot after a colleague reversed over it in a refuse van is to launch a claim for compensation.
Kevin Jobe, 48, was helping the driver, Arturas Jablonkis, to reverse, when he suddenly moved the vehicle back and turned its wheels, Recycling and Waste Management reports.
As a result, Mr Jobe’s foot was crushed against the kerb and he claims he may still have to have it amputated.
A claim has been launched against Veolia Environmental Services, with Mr Jobe alleging that the company failed to train staff properly and did not provide warning of the manoeuvre.
He hopes to claim £150,000 in compensation.
A spokesperson for Veolia Environmental Services said: "Our sympathies are with Mr Jobe for his continued recovery and we take the injuries he suffered extremely seriously. We are therefore working closely with our insurers as the matter continues to be thoroughly investigated.”
According to new statistics from the Health and Safety Executive, over 136,000 workers suffered injuries during 2007-08.

A cyclist who took his local council to court after suffering an injury while cycling has been awarded compensation.
Stuart Bullen, 60, was riding his bike along a cycle path he had used before, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.
However, he was unaware that the path had been altered the day before and that part of it now veered on to the pavement over a raised kerb.
Mr Bullen’s bike hit the kerb and he suffered a fractured shoulder and wrist as a result, injuries which doctors say will worsen over time.
He took Lancashire county council to court and has now been awarded £11,000 in compensation.
Commenting on the payout, he said: "It was never about the money, it was just about the fact they had altered it and done it incorrectly."
Anyone who has been involved in an accident on a public pavement may be entitled to compensation if it can be proven that there was some form of defect with the pavement and the local authorities can be held responsible.

The organisers of the Isle of Man TT races are facing further legal action from another man who was injured while watching the 2007 Senior Race.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the widow of Marc Ramsbotham – who was killed riding his motorbike at the 26th Milestone – is considering taking further action against the officials for not protecting the safety of her husband and spectators.
This week, it emerged that Andy Green from Derbyshire is campaigning for justice after he was hurt in a separate accident.
Mr Green was a spectator at Cross Four Ways when a competitor hit a kerb and crashed into him, Isle of Man Today reports.
His leg was broken above the ankle so badly that the bone protruded and he spent nine weeks in hospital after being airlifted back to Derbyshire.
Mr Green is now pursuing further action after it emerged that standard claims for compensation are not recognised on the island.
"I’ve lost £8,000 to £9,000 minimum in lost earnings. We are not asking for the earth, just the money that we have lost," he commented.

A man who was hit by a motorcyclist as he watched a race has launched a legal battle for compensation, it has been revealed.
According to reports in the Derby Evening Telegraph, Andy Green was standing behind a fence when a motorbike hit a kerb and struck him, causing serious injury.
The 42-year-old was at an annual Steampacket race on the Isle of Man – which is renowned for such events – when the incident took place.
He suffered a broken leg which was so severe that the bone protruded out of his skin.
As a result of the collision, Mr Green was unable to return to work for several months.
Commenting on the incident, he said: "We were standing behind an 18-inch fence and I was filming the racing when the rider lost control.
"The bike flew towards us at high speed and crashed straight into my leg."
